Bold Endeavours sees software sales uplift.

Bold Endeavours President Derek Mansfield notes much improved increase in business activity in second quarter 2009.

<fulltext>06 June2009 London, Kiev. Bold Endeavours President Derek Mansfield notes much improved increase in business activity in second quarter 2009. “Our business is two areas, bespoke software and a range of custom built web systems. Both areas are seeing an increase but the really interesting sector is in our Big Easy web development products. One of our biggest lines is targeted to a niche sector – online sales of professional footage clips. Buyers of footage clips are Film and TV studios, Advertising Agencies and marketing companies. Our Customers are the content owners who sell to these buyers. We have seen a quadrupling of inquiries and sales in the last 3 months. Our customers say they are buying systems because demand is building amongst TV studios and Ad Agencies - stock footage allows TV and commercial production to continue to be produced, but at lower cost." Bold Endeavours also took the initiative in extending it’s own lines of credit to software buyers; in a credit hungry world this is proving successful. Most inquiries come from the USA and Britain but the company is in negotiations with Russian, Australian, German and Dutch businesses. Mansfield continued “Times have been fairly tough since September last year but if this improvement continues we will soon be hiring more developers and management people in our Kiev production facility.” For more information contact Bold Endeavours Derek Mansfield +44 208 123 1778 Press@big-easy-team.com www.boldendeavours.com Big Easy Footage Library Software Natalie Rastabarova +38 044 221 95 95 press@big-easy-team.com www.befls.com</fulltext>

Big Easy offers lease purchase for software and web development.

To help small business jump start sales Big Easy Software development is being offered on extended lease purchase deals.

<fulltext>The credit squeeze is doubly painful for online businesses; if a company is not in the top 3 on Google it's likely that both the site and the online marketing need a drastic overhaul. But how to pay for it with reduced cashflow ? Lease purchase is the answer A lease purchase solution is available from the ever creative and resourceful Big Easy Software team at Bold Endeavours. They decide if Banks and Finance companies won't help businesses they would - Bold Endeavours is now offering lease purchase deals for their customised software application and web developments. They work out the costs - then take 20% as first payment with the remainder paid over 23 months. At the end of the period the business owns the clear licence for the software – with no more to pay. Meantime the lease payments can be claimed as a business expense against tax – thus reducing the final cost of the library software by whatever tax rate you pay. Big Easy also applies similar flexibility to hosting charges and fees for advanced Search Engine Optimisation and internet marketing. As an example the lease - purchase cost for a truly stunning, state of the art media software library is from as little as $500 / £350 per month for 24 months. London, Derek Mansfield +44 (0) 208 123 1778 New York, James Jordan +1 347 983 0157 Kiev, Natalie Rastabarova +380 44 221 9595 or email press@boldendeavours.com</fulltext>

Future proofed Content Management System

Future proofed Content Management System launched - platform and browser independent

<fulltext>New version of content management system - Big Easy CMS Our new future proofed Content Management System is both browser and platform independent. Big Easy CMS is our third content management system and is completely new, not an upgrade. The earlier developments were created at a time when most client's priorities were to have a system that looked and felt like Microsoft - so we deliberately engineered ours to work with Microsoft code and scripts. This helped user confidence levels and made for a fast learning curve. However, Vista did not include the original code snippets that we required to run our content management system so we decided to dispense with all Microsoft integration and develop the third iteration of our CMS; indeed now that we no longer work with Microsoft code, our own system is more stable, much faster and is simpler to integrate with other business processes and systems. The new CMS, branded as a Big Easy product, works with any browser - Explorer, Mozilla, Safari and Opera and will run on any operating system, Linux, Windows or Apple Pricing runs from £3,000 for a complete site with an infinity licence - we can develop a new site in about 15 working days.
Outsource relief for reduced IT maintenance budgets

Reliable Offshore outsource helps companies cope with reduced IT budgets

<fulltext>Reliable outsource with restructured pricing UK based Bold Endeavours Group announced restructured price offers for term maintenance IT contracts. In a business downturn IT is one area that is usually hacked to save money. This normally means new projects are shelved, but many companies still have to employ the same levels of expensive IT staff to simply maintain systems. According to UK based ITjobswatch in-house salaries for developers are £35k to £45k and upwards of £68k if day rate contractors are used. Bold Endeavours charging rates are typically 45% lower than in-house and 56% lower than day rate contractors. With American and English project managers in the USA and UK and project staff in Ukraine, Korea and India, Bold Endeavours runs outsource maintenance contracts as well as complete projects. The “follow the sun” global reach and linguistic abilities makes contract servicing simple and direct – poor communication and mis-understandings are the bane of poorly staffed outsource companies. Bold Endeavours also offers online marketing management as an offshore outsource too.
Potential quality failures for offshore IT contracts.

Caution advised - offshore outsource sellers reach new frenzy as outsource business declines

<fulltext>Bold Endeavours Group queries quality control for newest offshore outsource entrants. Any company dealing with software or web development is being assailed by an astonishing barrage of sellers - the majority of which are new to outsource or offfshore operations. Derek Mansfield, President of Bold Endeavours Group says the amount of telemarketing calls, emails, Skype contacts are escalating daily. Mansfield says “All of our team, based on 3 continents and in all disciplines – sales, development, design, are being contacted by increasingly desperate ‘offshore outsource’ companies seeking the ‘Business owner’ The irony is that Bold Endeavours Group is already an offshore outsource - albeit a UK company based near Heathrow with wholly owned subsidiaries in Ukraine, USA and India. “We've been operating IT and web services offshore since 1992 so we know the business and the industry. This apparent explosion of offshore outsource offerings seems to have two drivers. The majority of offshore companies only get parts of projects given to them by the contract holder – so because work is drying up UK developers are keeping more to themselves. Next, uncompetitive UK developers are teaming up with offshore businesses in an effort to become competitive." Mansfield believes client companies using newer affiliations may come to grief if they are not very careful; looking at the project management and communications systems is of equal importance to developer experience; communication and mis-understandings are the bane of poorly staffed or untried outsource companies. "When pressed you'll find many of the companies offering such services today are loosely based associates. No problem with that, but loose associations just as easily disappear when a project hits difficulties" In the downturn the IT budget is a primary area to be savagely cut. Although this generally means new projects are shelved, many companies are still forced to employ the same levels of expensive IT staff to simply maintain systems. According to UK based Itjobswatch annual in-house salaries for developers are still £35k to £45k and upwards of £68k if day rate contractors are used. Bold Endeavours charging rates are typically half that of in-house staff and two thirds lower than day rate contractors. With American and English Project Directors in the USA and UK and salaried project staff in Ukraine and India, Bold Endeavours runs outsource maintenance contracts as well as complete projects. Teams are client dedicated and work across most platforms and languages / skill-sets. Typically a trained team would remotely service and maintain networks, software applications or websites. The “follow the sun” global reach and linguistic abilities makes contract servicing simple and direct.
Bold Endeavours Group offers 0% credit, 2 year terms, on custom built software

Even though custom and web software development could do more to improve sales and save money for businesses than almost any other investment, Banks won’t finance. Bold Endeavours will.

<fulltext>Pre-Crunch it was hard enough to get loans for software and on custom built software development, it was virtually impossible. Today it is even harder. The problem - custom software is an asset to your business, but it is not a realisable asset for a Bank. Banks won’t lend on anything that cannot be sold in a fire sale. Looking at the number of companies with a great need but little chance of raising funds, innovative Software and Web Development house Bold Endeavours decided to offer credit terms. Derek Mansfield, President of Bold Endeavours said “To be honest, I got bored with being in a recession, and tired watching Banks continuing to help themselves and not their customers. So I decided to help my customers get the software they need to help their businesses. We ask for 20% of the build cost up front and the remainder over 24 months. There is no interest or credit charge payable .” Asked if it was working, Mansfield continued “Unquestionably. We have a line of ready-to-go-software products under our Big Easy brand and we have some interesting custom software developments from small to medium businesses.” Bold Endeavours Group is headquartered in London with production in Kiev and further sales offices in the USA. Mansfield also said “We don’t offer credit to everyone – but then we’ve always been choosy about who we work with. Currently we’re working on multi lingual developements for companies in Australia, India, Germany, Portugal, Ukraine, Russia, China, the USA and UK. Interestingly, businesses in Eastern Europe and China seem even more determined to win market share than their British or American counterparts.” Contacts London: Derek Mansfield, +44 208 123 1778 Kiev: Natalie Rastabarova +38 044 221 95 95 New York: James Jordan +1 347 983 0157 Press@big-easy-team.com www.boldendeavours.com www.bold.com.ua</fulltext>

On October 22 Bold Endeavours held a training seminar “Extreme Website Makeover – Key Take-Aways”. The seminar was dedicated to a usability topic, how to create a clear and profitable site.

<fulltext>On October 22 Bold Endeavours held a training seminar “Extreme Website Makeover – Key Take-Aways”. The seminar was dedicated to a usability topic, how to create a clear and profitable site. The seminar was held within a monthly meeting of the British Business Club. Bold Endeavours is a member of the British Business Club. The meeting started with the Richard Brady speech. Mr Brady announced the latest club news, introduced the new club members and pointed the main goals of the meeting. The next person to deliver speech was Bold Endevours President Derek Mansfield. In his report Mr. Mansfield talked about the difficulties that the site owners typically face, about the general site usability problems, and what the site main goals are. The next spokesperson was Vladislav Zhovtenko, the WorldAPP company representative. Vladislav held a more detailed site usability analysis and emphasized the main points one should pay attention to. According to Vladislav’s recommendations every site owner should make sure that on opening the site every visitor can clearly answer 3 questions: where am I, what can I do, why should I do it. It is important that every visitor clearly understands what the site is about and what they can do on the site. The next point to pay attention to is to make sure there are no conversion impediments. These are site elements that prevent visitors from moving around the site. The points are: lack of clarity, undisciplined eye-path, insufficient value promise, excessive friction. Also it is important to add eye-path influences. This helps to concentrate the visitors’ attention to specific site elements. The most important eye-path influences are: size, colour, motion, shape, and position. Practical training was the next stage of the meeting. All the participants were divided into 5 groups. Each group got a paper with the real site image. The task was to analyse the site on the basis of the points Vladislav mentioned. Also the participants were to offer 3 changes to the site to improve site usability. They got 10 minutes for the task. Then a representative of each group announced the group decision. The seminar ended with Derek Mansfield summing up all the points. He emphasized how important it is to pay attention to all of these details, and what results one can achieve by implementing the techniques discussed. Upon completion of the seminar everyone participated in the buffet.</fulltext>

Google predicts surge in online display advertising

The good news and the bad news

<fulltext>The good news and the bad news Here is the good news. From the Financial Times. “The head of Google’s display advertising business has predicted that spending on graphical online adverts, digital video, mobile and other non-search formats will increase almost tenfold in the next few years to … $200bn.” Very interesting, and I think fairly accurate. Buying ads on Google is not overly difficult if you have the training; it’s just granular detail and good software systems. The new buying system propounded by Google is not dissimilar to media planning/buying software already used for offline campaigns. Developing the buying system will be complex, but creating a campaign will not be. Anyway, Google and others are building the buzz about online display ads - which is great for footage sales. For Advertising Agencies it will be easy to add a video component to a Google PPC or display campaign and charge the client for both creative, management and a 15% fee on gross spend. Unlike offline media, the search engines do not pay commissions or discount their price. Ad Agencies will hug this new buying system to their collective breasts and pour client money into it. And, as it is an auction (in real time!) the cost of buying an Ad will go up and up and up. Google wins. Ad Agent wins. You’ll win because demand for footage will increase. Here is the bad news. A footage library still has to sell the clip. So for footage libraries there is a downside which concerns their own online marketing. Interestingly, what Agencies (and Google and Publishers) never tell people is that almost no-one looks at display ads online unless it is germane to the search the individual is doing. Check your own online experience and activities. The corollary is that individuals look at, and trust more, natural search results rather than display ads or PPC. So, should you want to run an online display campaign think about the ROI carefully. Wearing your marketing hat you’ll already have noticed the increase in PPC costs over the past 12 months. And because of “the surge” the price of paid for online advertising will inevitably spiral upward. What is worse is that And the Ad space is to be sold around a targeted user profile. It seems clever, but how many users will click on an Ad to selling footage clips whilst reading Sports Illustrated online? Target group – “middle market managers who have previously purchase video clips online.” A lot of impressions, precious few clicks, even fewer sales. So what can a library owner do to compete? There is a choice. Huddle up to Getty or similar and let them sell your clips for you, if they are prepared to. At 70% commission. Use vertical search engines like Stock Footage Online Use Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to put your product in front of a genuine buyer at the moment they are making a purchase decision. In our experience, over any six month period and almost any product, natural search delivers an ROI 60% or better than PPC or display. But if you decide to save money and major with SEO, start sooner rather than later – it’s getting increasingly difficult to dislodge competitors. Meantime I wish I owned Google May just have to buy shares instead.</fulltext>

A lot of modern users manage a personal blog or video journal, but not all of them know that it can be a wonderful tool for internet marketing.

<fulltext>Content marketing strategy is not that easy sometimes, but in most cases it’s definitely worth attention. Of course your video will not be viewed as much as those on YouTube or other video streaming web sites, but if you try video sharing, the effect will be great! We offer a few tips on how to make your video blog better. Video format. At first sight the format may not appear to be important, but if you look further into it, you will see that a lot of video sharing web sites support only some certain types of video. Try to choose a format that is readable by most of video social networks and plugs-in. Customer feedback. (For online shopping) A lot of major resources, like Amazon and Yahoo shopping use customers’ videos to review the product. Video testimonials have become huge. The audience likes to see the showcase and if this showcase contains the URL built in the video, the visibility of the web site you own grows daily. Interviews for video blogging (social networks and personal blogs). New content is extremely important for blogs. If you have anybody famous around to interview, just do it! If you have a blog about cooking, handicraft, travelling and so on, interview your friends, acquaintances or any professionals around you! Reviews. (For general use). Explain your idea or any concept you’re interested in. Do it yourself or hire somebody to film. Don’t shoot a whole movie – 2 minutes will be enough and users will love it! Contests. If you crave for more visitors to your blog, set up a contest with a prize.
High volume or low volume? We are talking about keywords for small business…

After experiencing SEO campaigns for small businesses and big companies we analysed the attitude of customers towards choosing the right keywords.

<fulltext>High volume and low volume keywords work differently in different cases and deliver varying effects. Still, a lot of newcomers don’t realize the proper use and importance of keywords. For example, if you are running a landscaping company in Axminster and you want to rank high for some keywords; maybe the best keyword that comes to your mind is Landscaping UK. But if you put this into the search engine, there may be 17 million results, so there are 17 million of companies to compete with. Unless you have a huge budget to promote your business it is very unlikely that you will try to compete so hard! Most of these web sites are optimized professionally and use a wide range of strategies. And a lot of them use direct advertising on Google or even TV. So what do you do? Before choosing a keyword, explore your targeted area. It can be the geographical location or count additional services your company provides to its customers. Landscaping in Axminster gives 984.000 results, so it makes the range of competitors smaller. It also gives a better idea of who audience is. Choosing one competitive keyword (high volume) and still developing the strategy for a less competitive one (low volume) is always a good start. So, will similar terms (landscape water drainage or stone wall landscaping) you will achieve better result than with landscaping UK or landscaping construction. Don’t forget to use different keywords; don’t stick to landscaping forever. And if your company changes the specialty, change the keywords as well. SEO can be your long-time investment. Be realistic about your possibilities and trust professional services. Doing search engine optimization for wrong keywords will mean problems from the very beginning. </fulltext>

Google penalized my web site. What do I do???

Imagine that your web site is penalized by Google… this sounds terrible, doesn’t it?

<fulltext>Imagine that your web site is penalized by Google… this sounds terrible, doesn’t it? First thing you think about is black PR right? You probably used spammy methods of SEO to get a better rank. Promoting your online business with black PR is the last thing you should do. Another reason is a technical problem or error. Yes, it happens even with such a powerful search engine as Google. The problem might be with your web site as well. Check your resource with search engine spider stimulator (IBP). Sometimes robots.txt file can block the spider of Google. If you’re still pretty sure that your web site was banned, there is a chance to apply for re-consideration. File the request here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/reconsideration but remember removing all spam content before you send is very important. Of course, Google has a team that reads these requests, but if web master keeps sending letters every day, even re-consideration can be banned. Usually it takes a long time to remove a penalty, so be patient. Write a detailed description of the possible violation and give experts a timeline to make a decision about your case. White PR methods are beneficial for your business. Only proper search engine optimization will attract customers and keep your web site on high rank in Google. </fulltext>

5 top reasons why your product fails in market.

Building your own brand or selling any product professionally can take years and requires a lot of experience and specific knowledge (especially if you want to do it online).

<fulltext>Building your own brand or selling any product professionally can take years and requires a lot of experience and specific knowledge (especially if you want to do it online). It seems to be easy, but it’s hard work! If you let your business fail, you’ll never use all the opportunities provided to you at the start. So, let’s explore a couple of things that will postpone success and turn your income to zero. No web site. Strange but true…a lot of people who start (or plan) promoting their own brand or selling products don’t have a personal web site! The internet plays an important role for 2.1 billion people dialy and this number is frequently growing. Don’t give up on the web site. NEVER give up on the web site, actually. Selling products off-site is great but selling online is even better! No Facebook account. With more than 750 million active users, you can find your fans and customers for sure. Many of us have a personal Facebook page, why not start professional corporate account, adding friends and attracting fans there. Add a Like button to your web site and start counting visitors. Look for other business pages, “like” them and build strong co-operative networking. A lot of users say: “it works!” We say the same! Google+ is not for me. Maybe it’s not as colorful as Facebook, but it gets what Facebook can’t get. Google+ unites family, friends (personal contacts) and co-workers (professional networks). It is already popular and a lot of industries follow it. This type of networking became a tool in internet marketing. No personal networking. Conferences, seminars and industry events can be a perfect opportunity to meet professionals face-to-face. Sharing ideas, making plans and discussing new projects is the new key to success. Meet people in person, make contacts online. All ways are beneficial! Twitter updates don’t make sense. All we can say about it is that Twitter can’t be ignored. Of course, it’s different from other social networks, but it’s a stream of information. People use cell phones to check tweets of their friends. Does this tell you anything? Yes, modern users love it. Contribute valuable information to the stream and boost your web site/brand/products. Little by little, every day, - and you’ll become famous! </fulltext>

A big debate about directories turns into some correct pieces of advice.

Everybody knows that Google shut down the possibility to buy links for inflating the popularity of a web site. The value of directories is widely discussed in webmaster and SEO forums.

<fulltext>Everybody knows that Google shut down the possibility to buy links for inflating the popularity of a web site. The value of directories is widely discussed in webmaster and SEO forums. We voiced our point of view about the quality of placing links in directories. How does it work? Can such a placement hurt Google rank? And does it have any effect in general? The answer to this question is really simple and doesn’t require long discussions. Just a few factors affect the quality. The page rank plays almost the main role. If the directory has a high PR or even a medium one it’s still better than non-ranked one. The second thing the user has to worry about is the quantity of pages indexed in Google and how many pages have high page rank. It can be a domain that previously had a high PR or page rank that transferred from another domain. With both cases you have to leave the directory and move further. If the directory has a lot of pages indexed and looks good, and then you can find the relevant category and get your submission. Another thing we don’t recommend you do is submitting your web site to a directory that looks like a link farm or is poorly organized. There are plenty of directories that accept only quality directories, provide a user with the ability to add keywords and choose categories. A lot of directories provide the option to link internal pages (deep links), providing additional good quality traffic. A lot of resources are great for relevance and to generate extra traffic. Don’t stop placing the web site on directories. It’s always good for your online marketing campaign.</fulltext>

<fulltext>29 years ago Scott Fahlman of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, suggested to use :-) and :-( symbols as emotional expressions in the electronically transfered messages. This is the text of his original proposal, posted to the Carnegie Mellon University computer science general board on 19 September 1982 (11:44). 19-Sep-82 11:44 Scott E Fahlman :-) From: Scott E Fahlman <Fahlman at Cmu-20c> I propose that the following character sequence for joke markers: :-) Read it sideways. Actually, it is probably more economical to mark things that are NOT jokes, given current trends. For this, use :-( Nowadays it's almost impossible to imagine our life without smileys. Internet forums and chats, instant messages, e-mail messaging, cell phone texting - all of them and even more areas of human communication are touched by these simple but yet meaningfull characters. Happy Birthday Smiley!</fulltext>

Pay with your smartphone through Google Wallet

If you hate carrying around bulky wallet full of credit and discount cards, sale coupons and special offers, you might be interested in this mobile payment application.

<fulltext>If you hate carrying around bulky wallet full of credit and discount cards, sale coupons and special offers, you might be interested in this mobile payment application. Google Wallet is an Android-based application that holds credit cards info, customer’s special offers and loyal customer relations info with the specific merchant. The app allows paying for goods and services with Citi MasterCard or a Google Prepaid Card. Google says that Google Prepaid Card can be funded with any of existing cards. By the way, Google will bonus with $10 anyone who by the end of the year will set up personal Google Prepaid Card. Google Wallet was first announced past spring. The system is built on near-field communication (NFC) technology. As Google tells “you'll only have to tap your smartphone on a store's credit card processor and you're good to go.” Despite of some security worries there are three key safety features of this app. The first is PIN number that need to be entered before making any purchase; or put another way, the usual basic security measure that anyone does while paying with credit or debit card. In addition to this, Google has developed a separate chip for its Wallet called Secure Element. The chip holds encrypted credit card data and that is separate from smartphone's memory. The chip will self destruct if anybody tries to get into it. At last, Google uses MasterCard's PayPass technology to encrypt credit card information as it's being sent from smartphone to an NFC tag. Not all of the stores have NFC capabilities yet, but as Google officials say there is a list of 15 big-name merchants that have embedded this technology onto their stores credit card processors. Among them: Macy's, American Eagle Outfitters, RadioShack, Subway, Jack in the box, Foot Locker and Walgreens. The only thing is that this app is launched on Sprint Nexus S 4G smartphones, for now. But number of Adroid-based devices and wireless networks will expand in the nearest future. </fulltext>

Delicious, once popular bookmarking social media is relaunched, offering some new features and brilliant ideas.

<fulltext>Delicious, once popular bookmarking social media is relaunched, offering some new features and brilliant ideas. Delicious used to be a very popular social media for new bookmarks storing, sharing and, of course, learning about these bookmarks. In 2010 owned by Yahoo, Delicious was about to be terminated or as in Silicon Valley-slang "sunsetted." However after being sold to a new owner, the bookmarking service rose from ashes, and, as all can see, is ready to offer some interesting stuff. The principle remains about the same. Everything you’ve got to do is just adding Delicious button to a browser’s toolbar, and if you find something really useful and cool on the net, just bookmark it. You can tag, title and share bookmarked links. Among some new good ideas which were brought by new owners is Stacks. This is a collection of bookmarked links, music and videos related to a certain topic. As the company says, Stacks is “the playlist of the Web”. The new owners have new vision and strategies for success. The company hopes building upon the web-sites core functionality to create a great discovery service. There is still a lot that has to be done, fixed and optimized with this web service, but one is obvious - Delicious is back and is not going to be "sunsetted" in the nearest future. </fulltext>

<fulltext>Click.to is awesome desktop acceleration tool that reduces copy-pasting and subsequently saves time. In order to find needed information we have to make tons of clicks. Usually we extract the peace of text and copy it. Then we need to open another inlay in a browser, paste the piece of text in the search tool, click search button and only then get the search result page. Isn’t it too much fuss? Now with Click.to you can only extract the piece of text and [Ctrl]+[C] it. Then you’ll see a panel with a list of icons of software and websites where you can send this extract. It can be MS Word, Notepad, Google search, Gmail, Wikipedia and many more resources. That’s it. Extract, [Ctrl]+[C] and select where to send it, either for searching, pasting, posting etc. This utility will save not only number of your clicks but also some amount of precious time.
Facebook upgraded Pages Insights analytics tool with new metric feature ‘People Talking About’.

<fulltext>Facebook upgraded Pages Insights analytics tool with new metric feature ‘People Talking About’. ‘People Talking About’ is a metric that enables better assessment of brand’s pages. This analytics tool is designed to help administrators in determining how their pages are stacking up against others, in what ways users are engaged as well as which areas need improvements. The metric will collect data from various users’ activities such as: liking a page; posting to a page's wall; sharing page’s content, answering page’s posted questions, page’s event’s RSVPing, tagging page’s photos; liking or sharing a check-in deal; and checking in at a place. The information about how many people are talking about a certain brand page will be shown below the total number of likes. The new feature looks similar to Twitter ‘Trends’, which displays daily popular hash tag topics. ‘People Talking About’ is another step of Facebook in moving away from private individual emphasis and moving towards benefiting public people, businesses, and corporations. </fulltext>

Making your public personality unified.

<fulltext>A little bit about online identity. How often when writing comments, posting to blogs and signing up for various online services you have to upload avatar, type in your profile details and contact information!? Now some web-resources can link your user activities to your social networks profile. This way you get you virtual face created. However you can comment or do whatever on some websites through one social account and use another social account on another web-service. This way your public personality becomes blurry. So if you don’t want to be a faceless Internet stranger, or a user with many faces you can synchronize your social media pictures. Here is how you can do it. At first, register with Avatar Harmony. This service will synchronize your Facebook, Twitter and Gravatar accounts. After registering, all your avatars will be uploaded into one system, and you will be able to select your “main” public face. </fulltext>

TrulyHandsfree Voice Control 2.0 - preferable alternative to iPhone’s Siri

Smartphone voice recognition systems are getting involved into serious competition.

<fulltext>One of the main features of newly introduced iPhone 4S is voice recognition system called Siri. The system allows users operating smartphone by giving voice commands. However despite of the fact that this iPhone’s innovation was presented just a week ago it has already got a serious rival. Siri can wake you up in time, forecast weather, text a message for you and generally pretends to be a personal intellectual assistant with no analog. However just recently this technology has got a strong competitor represented by Sensory’s TrulyHandsfree Voice Control (TVC) 2.0. TrulyHandsfree Voice Control has considerable advantages over Siri. TVC can identify owner’s speech in noisy surroundings. The system doesn’t have to be launched by pushing any icons; it runs on a mobile device permanently. Moreover TVC developers affirm that the system can recognize commands from the up to 6 meters distance and “hear” them even if they are part of a sentence. Sensory works hard integrating the new voice recognition system with Android platform as well as planning to make it compatible with other devices. </fulltext>

By introducing this features, and hopefully more to come, LinkedIn tries to get rid of a moth-eaten feeling of obsolete social network for older people. And as social media marketing professionals, we are looking forward finding a lot more interesting and useful features on LinkedIn. </fulltext>

The language barrier killer application

Google Translation for Android received an experimental feature called Conversation Mode.

<fulltext>It’s not a secret that our world is getting “smaller”. Traveling opportunities, international commerce, interdependent economies, Web and mobile technologies all of this suddenly turned a Global Village into a Global Kitchen. So the ability to communicate freely is not a need anymore but an inevitable necessity. But now it’s much easier to breach the obstacle of language barrier with Google Translation for Android with its experimental feature called Conversation Mode. Conversation Mode enables translating speech back and forth between languages. Earlier this year it was just English and Spanish, but now Google expanded this function to 12 more languages (14 total) – French, German, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, Czech, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin Chinese. The application is simple in use. Just select two languages of conversation, press microphone button and start speaking. The app will recognize your speech, translate it into previously chosen language and say it aloud. Then another person can answer and Conversation Mode will get you a reply, again with its own voice. The recognized and translated texts are also shown on the screen so if the app didn’t identify your phrase correctly you can see it, fix it and even add unrecognized word to device’s personal dictionary, so it will do it right way in the future. The app is still in alpha testing so some factors like regional accents or background noise may affect accuracy. However Google developers promise to work on and improve Conversation Mode so we would be able to feel more comfortable in any foreign language speaking situations, either in our own country, or overseas. It should be mentioned that Google Translate app is available for Android based smartphones, and now it’s optimized for tablets as well. </fulltext>

Distant access with Chrome Remote Desktop BETA application

Google Chrome developers just announced beta release of a plugin for computer remote access.

<fulltext>Chrome Remote Desktop BETA is an application which enables sharing and remote access to another computer via Chrome web-browser. The system is absolutely cross-platform, which means that it operates through Chrome web-browser installed on Windows, Linux and Mac operation systems. Usually, to connect to another computer, system administrators or support engineers use special software. It requires downloading, unpacking, installation and, sometimes, it costs money. Besides, using special software noticeably increases CPU usage and generally adds extra unnecessary efforts. Now, you can forget about all of that. Remote access is available just by using Chrome web-browser with the free plugin. It is handy when a person you want to help is not nearby. You can use the app to interact with another computer and distantly help solving appeared issues. By the way using the system is secure, because the access is given only for one time and for only specific person. Eventually the ability to access remotely one of your own computers will be added in future updates of the application. This BETA is still raw and requires a lot of work to remove all existing bugs, improve connection and increase speed. However Chrome developers say that this app version’s goal is to show the core of Chrome Remoting technology and with users’ feedbacks achieve the highest performance of this application. For this reason the system users can post feedbacks as well as get help and troubleshooting for the application. </fulltext>

Web based application for office latecomers

This Monday morning we would like to show you a web based application which tracks employees who come to work late and even punishes them for that.

<fulltext>Almost every office has some employees who come later than they are supposed to. Now using technologies it is much easier to keep track on those workers. The Late Jar is a web based application which helps to develop punctuality among office employees. The story behind this free application started as a joke. A company had a jar for office latecomers to leave some change as punishment. The change was used for buying snacks for the office on Friday afternoon. During one meeting somebody jokingly suggested to turn a jar into web application. And there you go. Now anyone on the web can use it and keep track on latecomers and even charge the late fee. The app is simple in use: during setup for an office or a group account, you need to indicate the late fee amount, the latest time to show up in the office, your working days and invite the employees via e-mail. If an employee shows up at work earlier, he/she can punch Rajiv, the application character who sits at the office desk. If an employee is late, Rajiv laughs and asks to pay. </fulltext>

User identity dilemma for Google

Optional switch from Blogger to Google+ raises online identity questions.

<fulltext>As it was reported, on Monday Google announced that users of Blogger publishing platform now have an opportunity to integrate or, to be more specific, replace their Blogger accounts with Google+ accounts. The assumptions why Blogger publishers might want to integrate with Google+ were made by Google as giving blog readers “a more robust and familiar sense” of who the publishers are, alongside with better exposure to much larger crowd of potential readers through constantly growing 40 million social connections of Google+. With above mentioned the conflict of user identity in these two platforms is obvious. Google+ requires use of real name while the majority of bloggers prefer to publish using a pseudonym. Although the switch is absolutely optional, it is still unclear what the reaction of bloggers will be on changing to the real identity. But the most interesting in this situation is that previously declared by Google exceptional use of real names in its social network now is under serious consideration. All officials from Larry Page on down, made a clear statement that Google+ is going to be more than just social network, but rather a connecting service between Google products, which ads social element to all of them. But how about personal privacy? If + wants users to show their real names, would it be an option for those people who use Google services under nicknames? It is not a secret that in many cases it’s much preferable to stay anonymous in the Internet, especially for those who are hiding from possible consequences of expressing their political opinions. And finally Google officials admitted that there is a plan to allow using pseudonyms with Google+ at some point in the future, but it is not clear when exactly that will happen and to what extend personal identity will be possible to withhold. As for now, anyone can use tons of Google services without setting Google+ account . </fulltext>

Facebook Subscribe function – a new networking opportunity

Subscribe to anyone’s status updates and posts even without becoming a friend, sharing private information and without any confirmations.

<fulltext>It looks like the concept of friendship in social networks is coming to its logical end. Partially it’s Twitter’s fault but generally it’s a result of natural selection in digital world. Here is how we used to communicate on Facebook before. We would add “real” friends or people we know personally to stay in touch. Soon it was getting pretty boring and we would start adding everyone who was interesting to read and see at. In a situation like this it’s impossible to avoid junk posts and their clean ups (alongside with the friends’ list). Twitter came up with a valid idea of following which brought a question - Is there a point in mutual friendship on a social network? Let’s say I am an active Facebook user and I post valuable content. And someone would like to read my posts on continuing basis. Why should I confirm as my friend (opening my private info) somebody I don’t know, and who is most likely doesn’t post something worth my attention? Finally Facebook got it, and realized that there is life outside mutual friendship. And it resulted in new Subscribe function. Now one can subscribe to anyone’s status updates and posts even without becoming a friend and sharing private information. It’s a wonderful alternative especially for business pages, celebrities and public people. Now it’s enough to click subscribe button nearby Add friend button on a user profile and read updates without any confirmations. Like on Twitter. And after Subscription setup you can regulate what kind of updates you want to receive. Will Facebook completely switch to Subscribe in the future? Probably not, but Subscribe button definitely made Facebook user experience richer and added a very valuable up-to-date function. </fulltext>

Tweeting via analog disc telephone

Ukrainians made analog disc telephone Tweeter client.

<fulltext>Sometimes it qualifies as fantastic when things which are almost out of use can be utilized with modern technologies. Let me explain what do I mean. Imagine that you are traveling or just got somewhere where there are no computers, Internet or cell communication. I know it’s hard to believe that it’s possible but still. Everything you have is an old-style analog disc telephone. Did you know that it’s just enough for sending tweets on Tweeter? Tweetphone, a Twitter client for analog telephones made it possible. Now it’s time for admirable ‘fantastic’ exclamation! Twitter, a micro blogging platform is among the most widely used social networking sites. The number of clients for Twitter is constantly growing. Tweetphone is the first analog client and that’s why it is so unique. Tweephone is a result of cooperation of two Ukrainian agencies, UP Digital Bureau and Unteleported Tech Agency. In order to dial a text one should use texting principle of modern button phones with letters under the numbers. For example, to dial ‘a’, dial 1 once; ‘k’ = 5 twice; ‘v’ = 8 three times. To send a tweet, simply hang up the phone. There is no surprise that Tweephone messages are short. If someone thinks that 140 characters are not enough to express a finished thought, I suggest you to try Tweephone. Aparently this concept was created just to show off and its practical value is probably close to 0. However the first Tweephone tweet was sent only a month ago, so let’s see how it goes. </fulltext>

Processor manufacturers are deeply engaged in core multiplication racing which benefits gaming and video editing.

<fulltext>Last week Intel announced its six-core Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition processor, the fastest Intel chip for PC so far. The announced processor speeds up video editing in about 52 percent; and memory performance is up to 114 percent better than in the previous version. It should be mentioned that Intel’s rival AMD goes much faster in this core racing. This September AMD demonstrated an eight-core processor. Well, it seems like the progress in computer technologies significantly benefits advanced video editing and gaming on a simpler level of desktop PCs. </fulltext>

Bing offers to look differently on web-search with Editors’ Picks

Bing launched Editors’ Picks to bring more diversity and human touch to web-search.

<fulltext>It is common knowledge that search engines use special algorithms to provide search results. Another word it’s software or a virtual robot, if you will, who’s responsible for processing inquiries and providing us with results. In contrast to this Bing offered a new optional way of searching the web through Editors’ Picks, which supposed to bring a human touch to the data search in the Internet. Editors’ Picks is a list of websites which are grouped by topics. Basically it is a directory of web pages which appeared for Bing’s editors relevant and helpful within the category. At this point Editors’ Picks feature is available only for users from the USA. This is an unusual way to response on Google’s deactivation of its directory and claiming that searching the web is the best way to find something there. Bing’s officials say that Editors’ Picks goal is simply to help people finding what they need faster, using new options and make their search experience richer. It has been noted that Editors’ Picks feature will not affect the ranking of usual search results, and that its goal is to offer simply different angle on search results, based on manmade selection rather than the machine complex calculation. The search engine launched 140 Editors’ Picks on wide variety of topics and plans to release new Picks on a regular basis. Besides, anyone can try to become an editor by sending an e-mail to PicksChat@microsoft.com. </fulltext>

Two ways how you can run more than one Skype accounts simultaneously on one computer.

<fulltext>Did you know that you can run several Skype accounts on one computer, at the same time? If the answer is ‘no’, this article might be helpful. By the way, what is going to be described is absolutely legal. So, if you are going to run more than one account simultaneously on one computer, you should start a new instance. Here is simple way how you can do this: 1. Press Windows and R keys at the same time. The Run window will appear. (As an alternative you can click Start, and type Run in the search field.) 2. In the Run window, enter the following: 3. Click Ok button. If everything works out correctly you will have a new Skype log in window appeared where you can enter another account login parameters and run it. If you need one more running account, just follow previously described 3 steps again. However, if you have different installation path, then the correct path for the Skype.exe file should be entered. That was the easy way. Here is the hard way (which might be an option in case when the easy one doesn’t work): 1. Create a Skype desktop shortcut. (go to All program list, find Skype, right click and select Send to > Desktop (create shortcut) ). 2. Go to the desktop and right click on Skype shortcut. 3. Select and click Properties. 4. In the Target field add: /secondary . The Target field now should look like this: Click OK . If you have done this “hard way”, now you have a desktop shortcut. Every time you double-click on it, a new instance of Skype will be started. Enjoy.</fulltext>

MyPermissions cleans social accounts clogged with useless apps.

<fulltext>There is no doubt that once in a while everything that we use requires major cleanup. Whether it is a carpet or laptop monitor. We tend to generate things which are used rarely so as a result we keep a lot of useless stuff. This applies to use of social networks big time. How many times we grant access for applications and then forget about their existence next minute!? And those applications keep stacking and stacking bothering with messages up to the point of extreme annoyance. So if you reached that point or you just a person who likes to keep everything in order, MyPermissions social network cleaning service might be very handy. With its help you can review and delete useless applications on Google, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, Linked In, Dropbox, Flickr and Instagram just in two minutes. MyPermissions is basically a web-page with links to the social networks and services. It was a clever idea to get those networks and services in one place. It will definitely save a lot of time in settings changes and searching through the web for corresponding services and valuable pieces of information. You just go to one place and deal with apps from there. Besides it’s possible to set up monthly e-mail reminder to visit the page and check permission settings. Try to clean your social account and you will be surprised how many sites and applications have access to your accounts. </fulltext>

Google search becomes social

Google just launched a new search engine integrated service called "Search plus Your World", which allows to view search results with Google user profiles, shared photos and related Google+ posts from circles.

<fulltext>Google just launched a new search engine integrated service called "Search plus Your World", which allows to view search results with Google user profiles, shared photos and related Google+ posts from circles. The button that turns this option on is labeled “Show Personal Results” and marked with a person icon to the left of listings. Alternately, searchers can choose to view only their personal results on a separate page. The idea behind this novelty is to show search results based on opinions and experiences of people you know, those who are in your circles, rather than those of strangers. It should be mentioned that Google does not feature its rival Facebook posts or Flickr photos. It is obvious that content from Google+ and Picasa is highlighted instead. YouTube is on the way to be integrated in social search. As the company notes, the world’s leading search engine (Google’s share of search market is about 65-70 %) is not just about to find relevant content but leans toward social aspect of the whole web experience, placing people and relationships as a priority. Google accentuates that its personal results are not available for public. A user sees results connected to his/her search and contacts. For example, if your friend or spouse entered the same search term as you did, they would see results from their connections; the only results from you that they'd see would be the ones you had shared with them or the public ones. Search plus Your World will become available over the next few days to people who are signed into Google and are searching on google.com in English.</fulltext>
